Less is more
The SPM mold is enhanced through a simplified design for injection molds that do not involve complicated slides, a large-dimensioned mold construction or complex ejector boxes and cooling systems. In the SPM method, undercuts are achieved without a slide by means of mold inserts that can be dismantled. The maximum part weight is 2,500 grams, and the maximum dimensions are 400 x 600 x 800 millimeters. The output quantity is 500 up to a maximum of 3,000 pieces.
Even complex contours and undercuts are achieved easily through fixed and loosely inserted mold inserts. The ease with which gating and runner can be changed and mold inserts can be replaced means that the SPM molds can be easily adapted, changed and functionally optimized.
As a result, very low-cost and fully-functioning injection molds can be produced with the shortest turnaround times for the manufacture of series-identical parts in the original plastic. The sophisticated SPM tool concept enables material and production cost savings of up to 60 percent.
